TWA Meeting
Fourth of July
Parade
The Village Association officers put me in charge of organizing
our parade entry. The theme of the parade is "Salute the
troops - heroes in our hearts." I really like this theme
and hope that we can come up with a good entry. I contacted
an acquaintance of mine in the Army at Fort Hood who has recently
returned from a year in Iraq, to see if he and anyone in his
unit would like to come participate. He cannot make it, but
a couple of his buddies are looking forward to coming, and
I'm waiting to find out if anyone
else from his 130-person troop is interested. I hope a bunch
of them will come, I think it would be a great way to thank
them and welcome them home. We'd also of course be honored
to have any Sterling Ridge military personnel participate.
I've contacted The Community Associations and reserved a 16-foot
landscaping trailer to use as the base for a float, but we
will have to decorate it. Clay Chapman of Chapman Lawn and
Landscape, who is a Sterling Ridge resident, said that he would
use one of his trucks to pull it. I think the Parks Dept will
let us have the trailer only a day or so before the parade,
so we need to have a plan ready before then. I've gone by and
taken some measurements and pictures of the trailer for use
in planning.
Pictures from past parades can be found at www.4thofjuly.org.
We don't have to do anything real fancy. A couple of people
have already volunteered to help, and I'm counting on them,
but anyone else willing to help would certainly be appreciated.
If you can help, please either attend the meeting on June 13
or drop me an e-mail at sr_twa@hotmail.com.
Lake
Woodlands Stoplight:
County Commissioner Ed Chance has undertaken a "warrant
study," which is the first step toward determining whether
a stoplight can be placed at Woodlands Parkway and Lake Woodlands
Drive. I've also asked The Community Associations Parks Dept
to cut the underbrush growing in the Woodlands Parkway median
to help with visibility. Also, at its May 23 meeting, the County
Commissioners Court approved the Purchasing Agent to solicit
bids for construction of a traffic signal at Woodlands Parkway
and Branch Crossing Drive
Couslon Tough
Air Conditioner:
At last month's Sterling Ridge meeting, a couple of people
brought up a loud noise made by the air conditioners at Coulson
Tough Elementary School when they start up. I asked around
and the best advice I can give about that is to contact the
Conroe Independent School District. Bruce Tough (Coulson's
son) is on the CISD Board of Trustees and is also member of
the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Community Association
(the sister association to TWA for the older villages), so
he may be able to help out with this. I'm sure he can be reached
through CISD. It would be better if the residents who have
encountered the noise call CISD about this since they would
be able to describe it much better than me.
Construction
Update:
The structure being built on the northwest corner of Lake Woodlands
and Woodlands Parkway (in a small plot that is surrounded by
the Estates at Sterling Ridge Apartments) is another bank,
Washington Mutual.
Woodlands Watch Alert:
The Woodlands Watch is an expanded neighborhood watch program
that encourages residents to secure their own property and
utilize relationships with neighbors to keep their neighborhoods
safe. The following message was recently issued by Woodlands
Watch:
PROWLER/BURGLARY
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office advises that between
11:45 p.m. 6/6/05 and 3:00 a.m. 6/7/05 they had three reports
of a prowler in the Pepperdale area of Sterling Ridge. The
suspect entered three homes through unlocked back doors where
he stole cash from women's purses (burglary). He also entered
bedrooms attached to the kitchen areas where females were sleeping.
The females screamed and the suspect fled.
Suspect -
Hispanic Male
5'6" - 5'8" tall, 150 -160 lbs
Black, short, wavy hair
Was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans
Was a little dirty; possibly a construction worker
Units patrolled the area extensively, but did not locate him.
Please keep a watchful eye and report any suspicious persons
at once to law enforcement and LOCK your doors. Additionally,
lock your gates, use motion detector lighting and set your
alarm, if you have one.
CRIMINAL
MISCHIEF
Additionally, approximately eight criminal mischief reports
were taken the morning of 6/7/05 in Hickory Oaks in Panther
Creek where vehicle tires were slashed. Most of the vehicles
were parked on the street. No one saw anything or anyone; there
are no suspects.
Please use 9-1-1 immediately for any life-threatening or
property-threatening emergency. For suspicious activity, call
the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center at 936.760.5800.
The Woodlands
Express Bus Service:
According to a message on the Brazos
Transit District's website, the Texas Transportation Commission
elected not to tamper with the funding for The Woodlands Express.
According to the website, current service and plans for the
future additional park and ride facility will go on as planned.
I'm sorry to say that I don't have any timing information on
the park and ride, which is planned for the area near Woodlands
Parkway and Ashlane Way.
New Sanitary
Sewer Line:
The following information was received from The Woodlands Development
Company (repeat from last month): A new 12" sanitary sewer
pipe is being installed in the dedicated drainage easement
starting just below Flintridge, running north along the main
drainage ditch behind Dove Trace (parallel to the fences),
and behind Galway, Columbia Court, Cardinal Pint and Asbury
Square and Belcourte. The new construction will stop at Kuykendahl
Road, where it will tie in to another line.
A sanitary sewer line takes waste water from homes to a water
treatment plant. The new line is being installed in an existing
drainage/utility easement--to increase capacity of the line
already in place, and to handle future new development in Indian
Springs and Sterling Ridge. Homes already constructed are already
served by the existing line.
At the base of the new line, south of Flintridge Drive will
be a new "lift station"---translation motor --that
moves the waste water through the line. These lift stations
are located throughout the community. Staking is underway.
Construction imminent. Will take 4-6 weeks if weather &
suppliers cooperates.
New Library:
The new George Mitchell County Public Library on Ashlane Way
across from the YMCA will open on July 8.
New Community
Service Feature:
A new feature on the Community Associations website provides
a very easy way to report problems or ask for assistance from
the Community Associations paid staff. Problems or questions
relating to things like park, pathway, and streetscape maintenance,
street lights, covenant administration, garbage and recycle
pickup, pools, etc, can be entered online via the "Service
Request" button on the Community
Associations website. This new feature is very easy to
use, and responses are sent via e-mail notifying the resident
of the status of his or her request.
TWA Board Meeting:
The Woodlands Association Board of Directors will meet Thurs,
June 23, at 7:30 PM, at the Community Associations Building,
2201 Lake Woodlands Dr.
