Next Sterling Ridge Village Meeting
The July meeting of the Sterling Ridge Village Association
will be Monday, July 11, at 7:00 PM at the
Sterling Ridge YMCA. Representatives of the Sheriff’s
Office, including Lt. Coward, will attend to answer
your questions regarding law enforcement. A lot of residents
came to the June meeting with concerns about crime in the western
areas of Sterling Ridge. Please come to the July meeting to
discuss your concerns with the people who provide our law enforcement.
Fourth of July
Parade
The Village Association’s entry is the Fourth of July
parade is turning out to be exciting. I’d like to thank
Stella Nugent, Susan Hadix, Marcia & Monica Dallacasa,
Clay Chapman, and everyone else who is helping with the float.
A highlight of our entry will be 7 US soldiers based at Fort
Hood, TX, who just a couple of months ago got home from a year
in Baghdad. One of these young men received a Purple Heart
for injuries he received from a roadside bomb. All 7 were performing
patrols or supporting soldiers on patrols. Many of you have
“support the troops” ribbons on your cars, and
I’m sure some of you have sent packages and letters to
troops you do or do not know
in a war zone. This is a chance to thank these heroes in person.
Inviting them here and making the necessary arrangements has
been quite a task, but a rewarding one. There were some communications
problems due to my contact with this Army unit moving to a
different fort in another state last month, so I had to put
a considerable amount of effort into getting all of this done.
I’d really appreciate it if a lot of the Sterling Ridge
residents would line the parade route and give them a rousing
ovation as they go by.
Politics aside, most every American says that they support
the troops even if they don’t support the war, this is
a chance to show that support in person. The parade begins
at 9:00 AM on Monday, July 4. The route is takes it along parts
of Grogan’s Mill, Lake Robbins, Lake Woodlands, and through
the Market Street area, and details can be found on page 12
of the July edition of The Woodlands Community Magazine.
Also, the float committee would like to invite all kids to
participate in the parade by riding their bike or in their
wagon behind the float. There will be a prize awarded to the
best decorated bike or wagon. All kids must be accompanied
by a parent. Please don't miss out on the fun!! Meeting time
will be at 8am, Monday, July 4th at The Woodlands United Methodist
Church parking lot on Grogan's Mill Road at Lake Woodlands.
Look for the Sterling Ridge Float.
I hope everyone has a great Independence Day weekend! There
are lots of other events planned for The Woodlands. Details
can be found in The Woodlands Community Magazine.
Safety Day
The Community Associations is inviting residents to
a Safety Day, Saturday, July 9, from 9 – 11 AM at the
Indian Springs Shopping Center parking area. There will be
raffle drawings, crime prevention information from the Sheriff’s
Office, a bike rodeo by CISD police, Woodlands Fire Truck and
Fire Safety house, bike registration by The Woodlands Fire
Department, a safety display by the Montgomery County Precinct
3 Constable, information on targeting mosquitoes, and ambulance
from the Montgomery County Hospital District, food, and other
handouts. More information can be obtained from Community Services
at 281-210-3800.
National Night
Out
National night out in The Woodlands is Tuesday August 2nd,
from 6:30 to 8:30. This is a great excuse to meet your neighbors
and have a little fun at the same time. Neighborhood services
can help you get a night out party set up, and public safety
officials will be visiting the party locations. More
information...
New Park and
Ride :
I have been told that the park and ride lot that is to be located
near
Ashlane Way and Woodlands Parkway will probably be under construction
beginning at the very end of the year. I know some of you are
concerned about the traffic this might create; The Woodlands
Development Company has commissioned a traffic study of that
entire area including the park and ride lot, and will incorporate
the findings of that study into the design of the roads into
and out of the park and ride facility.
New Library:
The new George Mitchell County Public Library on Ashlane Way
across from the YMCA will open on July 6.
New Community
Service Feature:
A new feature on the Community Associations website provides
a very easy way to report problems or ask for assistance from
the Community Associations paid staff. Problems or questions
relating to things like park, pathway, and streetscape maintenance,
street lights, covenant administration, garbage and recycle
pickup, pools, etc, can be entered online via the "Service
Request" button on the Community
Associations website. This new feature is very easy to
use, and responses are sent via e-mail notifying the resident
of the status of his or her request.
TWA Board Meeting:
There will be no meeting of The Woodlands Association Board
of Directors in July. The next meeting will be Thurs, August
25, at 7:30 PM, at the Community Associations Building, 2201
Lake Woodlands Dr.
