Woodlands
Parkway and Lake Woodlands
At long last, Commissioner Ed Chance has contracted with an
engineering firm to design a traffic light at this intersection.
Commissioner Chance’s office expects the design to be
completed in early 2006, with the bid process to follow immediately.
Water well drilling:
The drilling activity just south of Woodlands Parkway and just
west of Indian Springs Shopping Center is being done by the
San Jacinto River Authority to provide additional drinking
water for the area. These wells will help improve the water
pressure for homes in the Sterling Ridge area. Additional inquiries
can be directed to the San Jacinto River Authority at 281-367-9512.
Future Governance Information:
The Woodlands Governance Steering Committee on a plan for a
future government structure of The Woodlands. They have set
up a website, www.thewoodlandsgovernance.org
where you can sign up for e-mail updates and follow the progress
of the committee as well as provide your input.
The City of Conroe has recently taken action to annex Harper’s
Landing, which has always been in Conroe’s extraterritorial
jurisdiction. Sterling Ridge, along with most of the rest of
The Woodlands, is part of extraterritorial jurisdiction, so
Conroe cannot annex Sterling Ridge, but Houston can. However,
The Woodlands has an agreement with Houston stating that Houston
cannot announce plans to annex any of The Woodlands before
2011. There is a 3 year period after announcing an annexation
before it would become effective, during which other arrangements
can be made, so it would actually be 2014 before the Sterling
Ridge area could be annexed by Houston. Hopefully, the Governance
Steering Committee will assist residents in taking action prior
to that time so that any change in the structure of The Woodlands
would be something that would be desired by the residents.
Community-Wide Governance Forum
On Saturday, February 25, 2006, the Governance Steering Committee
will hold a forum at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777
Glen Loch Drive from 8:00 AM until Noon. This forum will be
an interactive event where the public will utilize evaluation
criteria to further discuss and analyze the Governance Alternatives.
This is a critical point in the process and everyone is encouraged
to participate. Additional
information and registration information.
Law Enforcement Update
The Woodlands Association, along with the Community Association
of The Woodlands and the Woodlands Commercial Owners Association,
has included funds in the 2006 budget to engage a law enforcement
consultant to work with us and review the money we are spending
and how it is being spent, compare that to the needs of the
community, and determine if we should be spending that money
differently or spend additional money. We take this issue seriously
and will do what we can to provide a higher level of service.
Organization of The Woodlands:
An organization chart for The Woodlands has been developed
and added to the Sterling Ridge website at www.sterling-ridge.org/org_chart.php.
The chart is "clickable," and takes the viewer to
FAQ where additional information is given about the various
organizations that provide services to residents of The Woodlands.
New Community Service Feature:
A very easy to use feature on the Community Associations website
provides a way to report problems or ask for assistance from
the Community Associations paid staff. Problems or questions
relating to things like park, pathway, and streetscape maintenance,
street lights, covenant administration, garbage and recycle
pickup, pools, etc, can be entered online via the “Service
Request” button on the Community
Associations website. This new feature is very easy to
use and responses are sent via e-mail notifying the resident
of the status of his or her request. There is no need to contact
me with every request. Feel free to contact me, however, if
you have any trouble getting resolution.
TWA Board Meeting
The next TWA board meeting will be Thursday, January 26, 2006
