Sterling Ridge Village Association Meeting:
The next meeting of the Sterling Ridge Village Association
will be Monday, May 22, at 7:00 PM at the Sterling Ridge
YMCA.
Brazos Transit District, which operates The Woodlands
Express park and ride service, would like to come speak
at a future Sterling Ridge Village Association meeting.
Hopefully that will be set up for June or July.
New Wal-Mart at Woodlands Parkway and FM 2978:
At the
April Sterling Ridge Village Association meeting, the
manager of the new Wal-Mart visited to talk about
the store and answer questions. He seems very interested
in making sure that Wal-Mart is a good neighbor to the
residents. Along those lines, all delivery trucks will
access the store by way of FM 2978 instead of Woodlands
Parkway, security is provided in the store and parking
lot, and traffic at the entrances and exits will be monitored
and deputies will be stationed to control traffic when
needed during the opening days.
Governance Open House:
The Governance Steering Committee
will hold three open houses on Tuesday May 23, 2006 at
The Woodlands Community
Church, 5401 Rush Haven. There will be three sessions,
7-9 AM, 11 AM – 1 PM, and 6-8 PM. The GSC has narrowed
governance options down to two – incorporation
and special purpose management district. These will be
studied extensively in the next few months to determine
a course of action going forward for the 2007 legislative
session.
Woodlands Parkway Extension:
I’ve gotten some additional
information about the proposed Woodlands Parkway extension
from FM 2978
to TX 249. I learned last week that this had been part
of the long term plan since at least 1985, as it was
marked as such on a map dating from that year. This is
a long term project that is probably 15 years in the
future; the County is only looking at obtaining the rights
of way for it now. Actual construction would probably
require a bond issue that residents would have the opportunity
to vote on. Additionally, it is planned in conjunction
with other roadways, including completion of FM 1488
to the north and the Grand Parkway to the south, so Woodlands
Parkway would probably not carry the bulk of the east-west
traffic in the area. The question of extending Research
Forest has come up a number of times, but if it was extended
it would be very close to FM 1488 and as such would not
be as beneficial.
County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Doyal told me that
he would be happy to come speak to the Association about
the proposal and answer questions. Please let me know
by replying to this e-mail if you would like such a meeting.
Mosquitoes:
Mosquito season is upon us, and County Precinct
3 will be working with The Woodlands Community Associations
staff to identify problem areas and do trapping and testing.
Additionally, the Associations Environmental Services
department will be available to provide public education
regarding things that can be done to help control mosquitoes.
2006 – 2007 TWA Priorities:
The following priorities
have been established for the coming year:
- Address community law enforcement needs.
- Ensure that The
Woodlands Fire Department meets the needs of residents.
- Continue
to evaluate and support efforts to determine the future
governance of The Woodlands.
- Continue to develop relationships
with Harris County, especially in view of the opening
of Creekside Park.
- Champion responsible finance and budget
maintenance.
- Continue to study mobility policy and solutions
for residents.
Fourth of July Celebration:
Independence Day is just
around the corner. The theme for this year’s parade is “Hats Off to America!” Please
let me know if you would like to help out with the Sterling
Ridge Village Association’s parade entry.
Water Wells and Plant:
The San Jacinto River Authority
is planning to construct a water plant including two
tanks and two water wells
off of Branch Crossing Drive south of the new Super
Wal-Mart and west of Branch Crossing. The Woodlands
Development
Company has prepared a notice for home builders to
provide to purchasers so that they are aware of the
future location
of the facility. Construction is planned to being in
mid to late 2006 and proceed for 12 to 18 months.
Future Governance Information:
The Woodlands Governance
Steering Committee is working on a plan for a future
government structure of The Woodlands.
They have set up a website, www.thewoodlandsgovernance.org where you can sign up for e-mail updates and follow the
progress of the committee as well as provide your input.
Organization of The Woodlands:
An organization chart for The Woodlands has been developed
and added to the Sterling Ridge website at www.sterling-ridge.org/org_chart.php.
The chart is "clickable," and takes the viewer to
FAQ where additional information is given about the various
organizations that provide services to residents of The Woodlands.
New Community Service Feature:
A very easy to use feature on the Community Associations website
provides a way to report problems or ask for assistance from
the Community Associations paid staff. Problems or questions
relating to things like park, pathway, and streetscape maintenance,
street lights, covenant administration, garbage and recycle
pickup, pools, etc, can be entered online via the “Service
Request” button on the Community
Associations website. This new feature is very easy to
use and responses are sent via e-mail notifying the resident
of the status of his or her request. There is no need to contact
me with every request. Feel free to contact me, however, if
you have any trouble getting resolution.
