TWA Update - June |
|
Distribution List: Sterling Ridge Village Association Meeting: Brazos Transit District, which operates The Woodlands Express park and ride service, will speak and present information and maps regarding a park and ride facility near Ashlane Way and Woodlands Parkway. Residents of Sterling Ridge as well as any readers from Carlton Woods and Indian Springs can attend to ask questions and voice opinions regarding the park and ride facility. County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Doyal told me that he would be happy to come speak to the Association about the proposal to acquire rights of way for future extension of Woodlands Parkway west to Highway 249. I am waiting to hear back from his office on when he would be able to do this. Skate Parks (Wheel-Friendly Areas): At the May 25, 2006 TWA meeting, one of the items on the agenda was consideration of a skate park at Windvale Park in Alden Bridge. A lot of residents, most from the Windvale area and some from other areas, spoke in opposition of skate parks, particularly unsupervised ones, because of safety concerns. There were also concerns of possible increased noise and traffic. Two residents spoke in favor of the facility. In light of the concern for children’s safety, the board voted to hold off on action regarding this particular park and directed the Associations staff to undertake a study of skate parks in general and the inherent risks, liabilities, etc. The results of that study may affect future skate parks as well as the existing facilities. Mosquitoes: Mosquito season is upon us, and County Precinct 3 will be working with The Woodlands Community Associations staff to identify problem areas and do trapping and testing. Additionally, the Associations Environmental Services department will be available to provide public education regarding things that can be done to help control mosquitoes. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact Environmental Services at 281-210-3900. Fourth of July Celebration: Independence Day is just around the corner. The theme for this year’s parade is “Hats Off to America!” Please let me know if you would like to help out with the Sterling Ridge Village Association’s parade entry. Recreational Facilities Funding: One of the unique features of The Woodlands is the parks and pathways that are available to residents. The parks and pathways are owned by The Woodlands Association (and The Woodlands Community Association in the older areas). Maintenance of those facilities is done by the Community Associations, and funded by Association fees that are paid by residents. However, the initial construction of the parks is done in conjunction with The Woodlands Development Company under a cost-sharing agreement under which the Development Company pays generally half the cost and The Woodlands Association pays the other half. I mention this because the agreement is now being allowed to automatically renew for its third 5 year term. Construction Access Across TWA Property: On the agenda for the June 22 TWA meeting will be a proposed change in the way construction access is granted for building of things like swimming pools on private property. Presently, when Association property, such as an open space reserve, has to be crossed to gain access to a resident’s backyard for construction of a pool, a $500 deposit is provided to the Association and held until the area is graded, seeded, and planted such that it looks essentially like it did before the construction. The resident is responsible for the work done to restore the land and maintain it until the new plantings they are established. The proposal calls for a $500 fee to be paid by the resident to the Association, and the Association would then contract with a landscaper to grade, seed, and plant the area affected by the construction access. The $500 deposit would also still be collected and held to ensure that the resident waters the area to allow the new planting to take root. The proposed new procedure would ensure consistency and quality of restoration of the Association’s property. TWA Board Meeting: STANDING INFORMATION AND NOTICES:
Water Wells and Plant: The San Jacinto River Authority is planning to construct a water plant including two tanks and two water wells off of Branch Crossing Drive south of the new Super Wal-Mart and west of Branch Crossing. The Woodlands Development Company has prepared a notice for home builders to provide to purchasers so that they are aware of the future location of the facility. Construction is planned to being in mid to late 2006 and proceed for 12 to 18 months. Future Governance Information: Organization of The Woodlands: Association Service Requests: Contact Info: |
