Sterling Ridge Village Association Meeting:
The next meeting of the Sterling Ridge Village Association will be Monday, July 24, at 7:00 PM at the Sterling Ridge YMCA.

Proposed Extension of Woodlands Parkway:
County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Doyal told me that he would be happy to come speak to the Association about the proposal at the County to acquire rights of way for future extension of Woodlands Parkway west to Highway 249. His visit is planned for August 28, 2006, Sterling Ridge YMCA, 7:00 PM.

Mosquitoes:
This information is summarized from a report from Don Norrell, General Manager of The Community Associations of The Woodlands.

As of July 12, 2006, there have been 13 confirmed positive West Nile Virus pools of mosquitoes in The Woodlands area. Mosquitoes are particularly bad this year because of general warming conditions throughout the year, and local weather patterns this summer have been ideal for mosquito breeding, with rainfall about every 2 or 2-1/2 weeks providing water for breeding sites.

Good drainage and maintenance is the key to stopping mosquitoes from breeding. You should be aware that some solutions to drainage, such as French drains, have actually created breeding sites for mosquitoes as they hold water for extended periods of time. Montgomery County Precinct 3 sprays the drainage culverts and storm drains, but the spraying of streets has minimal impact, so it is only done occasionally.

The Community Associations Environmental Services staff tests areas for mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus. When a positive West Nile Virus site is identified, they send post cards to approximately 15 – 20 homes surrounding the site. If the homeowners agree, staff then surveys the properties and reports findings to the homeowners. Staff expends a lot of energy to educate homeowners on good property management to control mosquitoes. They can be contacted at 281-210-3900. Staff is in regular contact with the Texas A & M Mosquito Lab and the Texas Department of Health, and they assure staff that we are addressing the mosquito issue with the best approach available.

National Night Out:
National Night Out against crime is Tuesday August 1, 2006.

Because The Woodlands has grown so much, residents are invited to celebrate National Night Out with a new twist. Along with individual neighborhood parties, Neighborhood Services will also be hosting “Public Safety in the Park” on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. All residents are encouraged to come meet public safety personnel and greet local community leaders at any of the ten official park locations. Activities will include public safety displays, free hotdogs, drinks, children’s programs and the popular ID the Burglar contest. Community pools will remain open during the celebration so stop by and enjoy the National Night Out fun! The Sterling Ridge pool is at Cranebrook Park.

New Fire Station:
Temporary Woodlands Fire Department Station 6 has opened behind Lowes near College Park Drive (TX 242) and I-45. This station is needed to provide service to the TX 242 corridor, including St. Luke’s Hospital and The Woodlands College Park High School, as well as the Harper’s Landing area. Fire protection in The Woodlands is provided by The Woodlands Fire Department, which is funded by the Community Associations.

Upcoming Joint Board Meetings:
During September, the TWA Board will meet jointly with the Woodlands Community Association Board and the Woodlands Commercial Owners Association Board to address issues such as future governance, the Woodlands Recreation Center, and the 2007 budget. Association Service Requests:
A very easy to use feature on the Community Associations website provides a way to report problems or ask for assistance from the Community Associations paid staff. Problems or questions relating to things like park, pathway, and streetscape maintenance, street lights, covenant administration, garbage and recycle pickup, pools, etc, can be entered online via the “Service Request” button on the Community Associations website. This new feature is very easy to use and responses are sent via e-mail notifying the resident of the status of his or her request. There is no need to contact me with every request. Feel free to contact me, however, if you have any trouble getting resolution.
