TWA Update - February |
|
Sterling Ridge Village Association
Meeting Governance: Two pieces of legislation are necessary to allow the City of Houston and The Woodlands to finalize the proposed agreement that was announced recently. Senator Williams has advised us that the preliminary draft of the two pieces of governance legislation have been submitted to the Texas Legislative Council for final drafting of the legislation. The Texas Legislative Council provides bill drafting services to members of the Texas legislature. One of the bills would allow Houston and The Woodlands to enter into the agreement and the other would broaden the scope and geographic coverage of the Town Center Improvement District. Law Enforcement Update: The Sheriff’s Office is in the process of gearing up for the staffing, training, and equipping of the deputies that will be assigned to The Woodlands community policing program. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 20 (of the total 30) deputies will be on the streets of The Woodlands by mid-March, with the remainder expected by mid-May. Community Elections: See http://www.thewoodlandsassociations.org/press/3428.php for the results of the Community Associations elections. I am honored that the residents of Sterling Ridge have re-elected me. Mobility: The Woodlands Road Utility District No. 1 has received bids and a contract for the addition of a third eastbound lane on Woodlands Parkway between Grogan’s Mill and Six Pines should be awarded soon. Montgomery County is planning for a new I-45 northbound flyover type off ramp at Hwy 242. The new ramp would help reduce traffic on the northbound frontage road. There will be a toll for use of that ramp to repay the County for the construction cost, but there will still be free access via the frontage road. New Development in Sterling Ridge: The Montfair neighborhood is currently under construction near the Joel Deretchin School off of Terramont Drive. This neighborhood will be a bit different from most areas of The Woodlands in that part of it will be served by rear alleys for garage access, and there will be a boulevard complete with pedestrian walkways running north-south through its center, connecting the school and a planned park with the neighborhood and, further south, with a retail, apartment, and office area on the north side of Woodlands Parkway at FM 2978. This neighborhood was characterized by The Woodlands Development Company personnel as a small scale, more moderately priced version of the development presently being built at East Shore near Lake Woodlands. The Spindle Tree area being developed off of West Branch Crossing will be in the Magnolia ISD, and an elementary school is planned on FM 2978 in the Spindle Tree area to serve residents who will be living there. Aquatics Center Planned for Village of Creekside Park: Creekside Park is the final village of The Woodlands, being built south of Spring Creek in Harris County (Tomball ISD). A large pool and aquatics center is being planned for a site near the main entrance to Creekside off of Gosling. Plans include a pool overlooking a lake, concession and eating area, a water slide, water play feature, a lazy river, lap area, and swim area. Plans call for the center to be completed by Summer 2008. TWA Board Meeting: STANDING INFORMATION AND NOTICES: Water Wells and Plant: The San Jacinto River Authority is planning to construct a water plant including two tanks and two water wells off of Branch Crossing Drive south of the new Super Wal-Mart and west of Branch Crossing. The Woodlands Development Company has prepared a notice for home builders to provide to purchasers so that they are aware of the future location of the facility. Construction is planned to being in mid to late 2006 and proceed for 12 to 18 months. Future Governance Information: Organization of The Woodlands: Association Service Requests: Contact Info: |
