16th Annual SRVA BBQ Challenge & Kids Festival

BBQ Winners

The Sterling Ridge Village Association held it’s 16th annual Annual BBQ Challenge & Kid's Festival on Saturday, October 21st at Cranebrook Park. Thanks to very generous sponsors, $11,700 was raised and will be used for donations to local elementary schools and freshmen college scholarships for village students.

The attendance was enormous on a sunny fall day as residents enjoyed the fantastic BBQ cooked up by neighborhood BBQ teams and fun activities for kids. Along with face painting, rides and bouncy houses, people enjoyed meeting the fire department, Sheriff’s deputies and Township representatives along with some local businesses that offer great services.

It is a competition and awards are given for the best in categories of ribs, pulled pork, brisket and beans, as well as the President’s Award for best overall. This year there was also a fan favorite award that was dedicated in memory of village resident Roger Christ who passed recently in a tragic vehicle accident.

The neighborhood of Ledgestone, organized by Suzi Leighton, Roger’s widow, took home a number of awards including the fan favorite and President’s Award for their deliciously smoked meats and beans. Abramwoods won for best brisket.

Sponsors for this fun event include Ivan and Natalia Arjona REMAX Realtors, BMW of the Woodlands, Bastion Engineering, Ezee Fiber, Sheriff Rand Henderson, County Commissioner James Noack, Accent Shutters and Shades, Wheeler Pediatric Dentistry, Hughes & Cozad Orthodontics and Howard Hughes Corporation.

Fishing Festival Fun for All

Our 7th annual fishing festival was a great success. With over forty kids and their parents attending, a fun morning was spent fishing and enjoying nature in Sterling Ridge at Pepperdale Park.

There were awards for biggest fish and most fish caught in three age groups. The winners were:

Group 1 - Largest Fish - Lucas Most Fish Caught - Olivia

Group 2 - Largest Fish - Grant Most Fish Caught - Milo

Group 3 - Largest Fish - Annie Most Fish Caught - Emjay

Our moto at this event is, leave the park in better condition than we found it. We had fun and caught a lot of fish, while taking the opportunity to clean up the park and pond. See you next year.

SRVA Donates Over $6300 to Local Grade Schools

The Sterling Ridge Village Association Board is proud to announce that it made donations to our local grade schools of over $6,300 at its monthly meeting on April 7th. Principals and representatives from Cedric Smith Elementary, Deretchin Elementary and Coulson Tough Elementary were in attendance to share how they used their past donations and where they will be able to apply this new funding in the coming months.

The SRVA raises funds through sponsorships for the events it holds, including its annual kids fishing festival and BBQ festival, as well as participating in The Woodlands Township events that sometimes pay awards such as the 3R Recycling Drive-thru and Waterwise Challenge. Our purpose is to serve the community and we love to help our young students have the best educational opportunities possible.

Village Association Board Elections

Elections for open Board seats on the Sterling Ridge Village Association will be held February 19, 2022. The Township conducts the elections for the associations every year. Filing forms for candidates can be found on the Township web site in January and the new board members seated in March. We encourage you to participate and get involved in the community.

Why Join a Village Association Board

The Woodlands is comprised of eight villages: Grogan’s Mill, Panther Creek, Indian Springs, Cochran’s Crossing, Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge, College Park, and Creekside Park. Each village has its own village association and each resident becomes a member of their village’s association.

The village associations are 501c(4) nonprofit organizations with a board elected by the village residents. Each village association has its own set of bylaws, each holds monthly meetings open to residents, and each plan projects that benefit the community.

The primary function of the associations is to IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN EACH COMMUNITY. THEY serve as a liaison between the residents of the villages and various local, county, and state governing bodies. The associations represent membership in important community issues and at times prepare and adopt resolutions. The association board directs residents to the appropriate channel for question and issue resolution. Residents always have an opportunity to comment or ask questions at any monthly board meeting they attend.

The village associations work hard to serve the residents of the village. Please attend the board’s monthly meetings and consider submitting an application to join your village’s board and get more involved in the community, stay informed, and meet your neighbors at events!
